Our History
K. M. Engineers Builders Pvt. Ltd. was established in 1982 (B.S. 2039) and is officially registered with the Office of the Company Registrar, Government of Nepal. The company was founded by Mr. Keshav Man Shrestha, a visionary in Nepal's construction sector, who recognized the growing need for infrastructure development during the early stages of national expansion.
Nepal's journey toward road infrastructure began in 1963 AD under the leadership of King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah. The government initiated the East-West Highway Committee to develop a national road network. Further expansion occurred in 1966 AD with the launch of road construction efforts to connect Nepal with its northern neighbor, China, starting from Kathmandu. Inspired by these developments and the nation's increasing demand for reliable engineering expertise, Mr. Shrestha established K. M. Engineers Builders Pvt. Ltd. to actively participate in Nepal's infrastructure growth.
In 1986 AD, soon after its inception, the company made a significant mark by installing and constructing Balfour Beatty Steel Bridges over the Trishuli and Bhotekoshi Rivers under the Trishuli-Samdang Road Construction Project. This prestigious project was operated by the Royal Nepalese Army Headquarters, Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.
Further establishing its credibility, the company played a key role in the Kohalpur-Mahakali Highway Project, which aimed to complete 204 km of road and 30 bridges. Under the strict supervision of N.D. Lea and Associates, K. M. Engineers successfully constructed three major bridges: Dondawa Bridge-72 meters span Gang Bridge-36 meters span Bhada Bridge-66 meters span These projects demonstrated the company's engineering capability and commitment to quality work under challenging conditions.
In 1990, the company undertook a complex construction project of a Vocational Training Center in Khokna, supported by ADRA Nepal. Despite its proximity to Kathmandu, the project site lacked road infrastructure, making the execution particularly difficult and technically demanding-a challenge K. M. Engineers successfully overcame.
The company's reputation grew through its key role in the Kohalpur-Mahakali Highway Project, where it successfully built major bridges such as Dondawa (72m span), Gang (36m span), and Bhada (66m span), demonstrating engineering excellence under challenging conditions.
The company continued to grow steadily over the next two decades. However, during the period of political conflict in Nepal, the construction sector faced significant disruptions, and the company's activities were notably limited
In 2015, under new leadership, the company re-emerged with renewed energy and vision. Since then, it has completed numerous infrastructure projects across Nepal, including roads, buildings, road safety works, and especially bridges and bridge maintenance. To date, K. M. Engineers Builders Pvt. Ltd. has completed the construction of over 30 bridges, with several others currently under construction.
Today, the company is led by Mr. Mohan Karki, who has continued the legacy of quality, integrity, and dedication established by the founding director. Under his leadership, the company remains committed to playing a leading role in Nepal's infrastructure development and nation-building journey.

Growing up in a remote village in the hilly district of Okhaldhunga, I experienced the challenges of life in Nepal's rugged terrain. Reaching the nearest motorable road meant trekking for four to five days crossing rivers, climbing steep slopes, and navigating narrow trails. These early experiences instilled in me a profound understanding of what it means to be disconnected and planted a dream of one day building the roads and bridges that could change lives like mine.
That dream stayed with me. Years later, as a young man, I found myself working in Nepal's construction sector, and slowly, that childhood vision began to take shape. Eventually, I was able to acquire a construction company specializing in bridge building. That moment marked a new beginning for myself and for the countless communities we would go on to serve.
At K.M. Engineers Builders, we are not just building infrastructure we are building connections, opportunities, and hope. With over 35 bridges completed and more under construction, our company has played a vital role in linking rural communities to schools, hospitals, markets, and the broader national road network. Every bridge we build is a promise of safety, access, and progress.
While we operate as a commercial firm, our purpose goes far beyond profit. We focus on the remote and underserved regions of Nepal, where infrastructure is not a luxury, but a necessity. Our motivation comes from seeing the relief on villagers' faces when they no longer have to risk their lives crossing rivers, or when their children can finally reach school even during the monsoon.
We also understand that true development means caring for people and the environment. Safety is our highest priority both during construction and in the communities we serve. We adopt environmentally responsible practices, from protecting local water sources to initiating tree plantation efforts post-construction. Internally, we foster a strong company culture grounded in loyalty, respect, and well-being.
Our efforts now extend beyond new construction to infrastructure maintenance recognizing that preserving what we've built is just as important as building anew. We're also embracing innovation through in-house bridge design, the adoption of advanced technologies, and a commitment to training and continuous improvement.
To Nepal's youth: the construction industry is not just about concrete and steel it's about creating a foundation for the nation's future. Nepal is a country of immense geographical diversity and untapped potential. The opportunities here are real, and meaningful change is within our grasp if we choose to stay, commit, and build.
